I purchased this book because I just purchased a new tube knitting machine. I thought from reading the description of the book, and the various reviews, that it was the most likely to give me some insight into the tricks, tips and techniques of operating the machine. The book arrived very quickly in excellent condition. I was, however, disappointed in my selection because this book focused more on the acquisition and assembly of a vintage machine, its 'care and feeding' if you will. While I cannot dispute the value of the contents, it was not what I was hoping for in the realm of how to use the new machine. The book is very well done, and does have some very helpful information about the machines, but if you want a book to help you use a new machine then I would recommend looking just a bit further.Product details

Sock Knitting Machine 101 Donna Peters 9781440460739 Books Reviews
It is exciting to see the surging interest in CSMs, and I am excited to have just purchased a beautifully refurbished machine. This book came out at just the right time for me and is a wealth of knowledge and information regarding CSMs, covering all of the major brands. However, I must warn you that the writing is seriously in need of an editor. There are really serious grammar and punctuation errors throughout the entire book and it makes it very difficult to read. As a freelance editor, I'd love to help them edit the book. The one redeeming factor is that it is the only book about CSMs in existence, so I guess they have a sure-thing in their audience.
This book really is a "101" course. It is very basic and not for anyone with experience with one of these wonderful old machines. I was a complete novice and by following the very clear directions one step at a time I made a tube with my sock machine the very first time I tried. I highly recommend this book to anyone just starting out with a CSM especially if there is no one nearby to help with instruction.
This book has a ton of good information for someone just beginning to knit or purchase a sock machine.
It is truly an excellent "Get Started " Help. I would like to see Book two cover the ribber.
My Legare machine works great...but not the ribber. I am finding that there is not Much info out there as to
how to take a look at the ribber or how to adjust it. It is very necessary information and I wish
there had been a section on that in this book.
a little pricey but hard to find now. some issue with book set up and grammer but suspect software and editor. good starting info if you are wondering before you sok your money into this kind of hobby
I used this book in setting up my machine, learning the mechanics of circular sock knitting machines. A must book for circular sock knitting machine owners.
This is perfect for the person who found an antique machine in a barn and doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars having it cleaned and restored. It tells you what products to use for cleaning, so if you don't mind getting dirty, you can do it yourself.
It is a shame that I didn't read the reviews for this book before buying it. Yes, it covers the basics of using a sock knitting machine, and as such, the information is useful. However, it's usefulness is limited by a) awful grammar and style of writing and b) a lack of depth to the actual material. I've had a couple of problems with my machine and the advice is both limited but also difficult to follow due to the style of language. Writing a book is very different from teaching a class and there is no doubt that the book would benefit from a good editor and additional information. The section on doing a heel was very confusing and often inaccurate.
I am sorry to be so negative because there is certainly a need for a contemporary manual on sock knitting machines, and I had hoped this would be it. Perhaps I wouldn't feel so negative if it hadn't been so expensive. As it stands it is simply not worth the money.
